2010 Inaugural Stingray Lacrosse Info
The first day of practice is Monday, 31 January 2011. All perspective players (excluding in-season athletes) interested in making the team must attend practice beginning on 31 January 2011. Official tryouts for the team will be held on Friday, 4 February and Saturday, 5 February. The Saturday tryout day is for in-season (winter) athlete’s interesting in playing lacrosse. The Saturday practice tryout time will be from 9 -11:30 AM.
Our plan is to carry a maximum of 25 players on the roster. This does not mean we will necessarily carry 25 players. We desire to have only those players that have: a strong desire to learn and play lacrosse, a positive attitude, a team spirit, outstanding sportsmanship, respect for each other and the motivation to improve their game and the team each day. The ability to catch and throw with the lacrosse stick will be an important factor as well as your overall physical fitness and athleticism in regards to making the team. Announcement of the team roster will be made on Sunday, 6 February.
Pre-requisites for trying out for the team include having a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative grade point average at the beginning of the second semester and submitting all of the required paperwork to Coach Gurny by 14 January 2011 (hard deadline). The required paperwork includes:
1. Duval County Schools Athletic Pre Participation Screening Form (health physical)
2. Consent & Release of Liability Certificate
3. High School Sportsmanship Contract
4. Copy of Birth Certificate
5. Verification of Health Insurance Coverage
6. Copy of latest JEA Bill (to prove residence location)
The first three forms above can be found on the ACHS athletic web site or they can be obtained from the Athletic Department. NOTE: if you are a student athlete that has participated in a fall or winter sport and already have these forms on file you still must provide me a copy of all the forms/documents listed. FAILURE TO PROVIDE ALL OF THE REQUIRED FORMS TO ME BY THE DEADLINE WILL PREVENT YOU FROM PARTICIPATING IN TRYOUTS.
Equipment issue will be on Wednesday, 26 January 2011 at 1:15 pm at the equipment room near the outdoor basketball courts. Wednesday, 26 January is an early release day. It is anticipated we may have more than 30 player’s tryout for the team. There are only 30 sets of equipment available therefore if you have your own equipment it is requested that you use it for the first week of practice. Those players making the Varsity roster that used their own equipment during the tryout period will be issued ACHS lacrosse gear on Monday, 7 February.
Tryouts will be very competitive and physically demanding. It is strongly recommended that you be prepared for this level of activity.

Lacrosse Fundraiser
The Lacrosse team is presently conducting a portable electronics recycling fund raising program.
Our players [and parents] are soliciting donations for unwanted, used, broken or operable portable electronic items such as cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras, digital recorders, lap top computers, radar detectors and ink jet cartridges. This is a “green” initiative that helps the environment, it is a tax deduction opportunity for the donor and it benefits our team. We do not take AA, AAA, D or 9V batteries. Special batteries that are included with lap top computers and cell phones can be left in the devices.
Anybody willing to donate their items should contact me or one of our players for pickup of the items. We will accept items for recycling up to 15 January 2011.
